Q. How may I learn about the Internet?

A. Your local Internet Provider can usually provide copies of an Internet Starter Kit, which includes free Internet software and information for beginners and experts. Versions for both PC and Mac users are available.

Internet World, Online Access or Boardwatch magazines are excellent sources of information. Your local Internet access company should have information about seminars. Your local public library should have books written about the Internet.

The L.A. Times Internet Academy has a good tutorial on the internet.

Q. What is Structnet?

A. Structnet uses a site on the World Wide Web to connect construction industry professionals, and industry related resources.

Q. Should Netscape be used to access Structnet?

B. You can use Netscape, or Mosaic, the AOL Web browser, or any World Wide Web browser software to access the Structnet Web site. This site is designed for Netscape 3.0 and should be used to obtain access to the site. There are other inhanced services that will need "plug-ins" to view and utilize them effectively. Q. How much does Structnet cost to join?

A. Structnet is FREE. Anyone can access the Structnet web site at http://www.structnet.com.

Q. Is there any Structnet service that I have to pay for?

A. We provide advertising services on theWeb for Construction related firms including Web page authoring and hosting your Web site.

Q. I presently use Delphi, America Online, CompuServe or Prodigy. Can I access Structnet?

A. Yes. Users of the major on-line services can access the Structnet web site using the World Wide Web browsers provided by these services. This is generally the slowest way to access Structnet. AOL , Compuserve, Prodigy, and Delphi are connected to the Internet. They are similar to an Internet provider plus providing thier own additional content. Direct access to the Internet is provided by the thousands of local Internet access companies across the country as well. Some new access methods through A.T.&T and MCI are available now. AOL, CompuServe and Prodigy are making major changes in their access and charges. Be sure to review them before making your decision.

Q. Should I get an Internet account or stay with Delphi, CompuServe, Prodigy, or AOL ?

A. If you find the additional information available on these sites are useful then it may be effective to stay with these services as well as obtain direct access to the Internet through an Internet Provider (IP). Much of the information found on these services is also readily available on the Internet. A flat rate Internet access account from your local Internet provider is usually faster and cheeper. These accounts can usually be had for $15.00 - .30.00 per month from a local Internet access company. The above noted services charge by the hour for their services. Statistics show that people spend an average of 5 1/2 hours per week on the Internet. If you are an average user, you would probably be better off if you used a local provider at a flat rate for full service.
